THE AUTOMOBILE: FOR BETTER OR WORSE
This article which addresses some key questions relating to the state of the art of electrical/electronics techology in automobiles, notes that even amid the controversy about size, fuel consumption, and safety hazards, there is unanimity concerning the application of electronics to autos. The questions relate to the ambient temperature operations problems of semiconductor devices in the engine-automobile environment, the lowering of the cost/price of automobiles, electromagnetic interference, and pollution control Radar guidance and collision warning systems, solar-powered car research, energy consumption, and automated diagnostic instruments are also discussed. The question is also considered of when and how microprocessors will de what they are promoted as being able to do.
