ANISOTROPY IN HEAVILY OVERCONSOLIDATED KAOLIN-CLOSURE
A closure on the discussion of the authors' paper is presented. It is noted that the influence of initial preparation on anisotropy in Kaolin has been investigated in a number of ways. These investigations include scanning electron micrograph studies, X-radiographic studies of embedded lead shot deformations in test specimens, and measurements of boundary deformations of test specimens. The data from the X-radiographs and boundary measurements showed that specimens isotropically consolidated to three times the vertical stress used to initially consolidate the specimen behaved isotropically under the higher stress. All isotropic tests specimens prepared by the authors were consolidated isotropically to at least three times the initial vertical consolidation pressure, before being allowed to swell.
