LIFT DOCKING AND TRANSFER OF SHIPS
The article describes a lift-docking elevator of recent design whereby the ship is hoisted vertically between the quays. Several hoisting methods are discussed, such as 1) elevator with winches and platform, 2) "AMC"-type elevator with ballast, and 3) water cushion systems. The elevator and transfer installations are designed to allow the repair, conversion or building of ships with an unladen weight from 50 to 15,000 tons.
