DESIGN OF HATCH COVERS
UTFORMING AV SKIPSLUKER
International convention--and classification requirements according to the 1966 convention are briefly reviewed, with respect to dimensioning and freeboard. Deformation of hatch cover and hull is considered, and the resistance of the covers to the motion of the ship is discussed. Packing arrangement and packing material, drains and proper operation of hatch covers are dealt with. First of two articles.
