NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS WITH TENSION STIFFENING
The response of reinforced concrete slabs under short-term transverse loading is studied by means of a nonlinear finite element method of analysis. The analytic model is based on small deflection plate theory and uses a layered sixteen degree of freedom rectangular plate bending element. The effects of tensile cracking and compressive crushing of the concrete and yielding of the reinforcement are taken into account. Various methods are considered for treating the tension stiffening effect which occurs in the tensile concrete between the cracks, and a simple procedure is suggested whereby a modification is made to the tensile stress-strain relation for the reinforcing steel. /TRRL/
