REINFORCED EARTH DEVELOPMENTS

Although it is a relatively new process, reinforced earth is being used to an increasing extent on the construction of retaining walls, grade seperation structures, bridge abutments and similar structures in roadworks. After explaining the principle of the reinforced earth technique and the method of construction, the authors describe several reinforced earth projects built recently in the Sydney area. Typical rates of erection and costs of work achieved to date indicate that reinforced earth is an economical and attractive solution to many earthwork retaining projects. /Author//TRRL/
