DISTRIBUTION OF ORE PRESSURE IN AN ORE CARRIER
A numerical simulation procedure is developed for determining stress distributions in the ore field of an ore carrier in a loading condition. Elasto-plastic stress analysis of the ore field is carried out on the basis of the elasto-plastic constitutive equation proposed by the present authors and the yield criterion of Drucker and Prager. The ore field and the hull structure are treated as one structural system for stress analysis. The results obtained are compared with experimental data by Hagiwara and Tani on an actual ship, and they show good agreements. Distributions of ore pressure are analyzed for various loading programs and for various types of ore hold, and show that the initial stress distribution in the ore field just after loading is approximatley given by the use of the Coulomb theory and the earth pressure at rest with the coefficient derived theoretically from the present constitutive equation. Numerical results for the additional ore stresses due to wave loads also show good agreements with experiments by Ando et al.
