CORROSION OF REINFORCEMENT IN REINFORCED CONCRETE. INFLUENCE OF ADDITIVES

CORROSION DE ARMADURAS EN EL HORMIGON ARMADO. INFLUENCIA DE LOS ADITIVOS

The influence of electro chemical phenomena on the development of corrosion is studied, considering the cases where the electromotive force of dissolution of metal with respect to the electrolyte is negative or positive, the formation of the galvanic couples and the phenomena of self protection and of passivation. The corrosion of alloys is also treated. Amongst the factors which affect corrosion in reinforced concrete are: saline soil, fresh water or sea water, contaminated moist atmosphere, additives, conditions of curing, random currents and particularly the action of calcium chloride. A number of recommendations are put forward for protection against corrosion, and the results of tests on galvanised steels are presented. /TRRL/
