DISCOMFORT GLARE: CONCENTRATED SOURCES--PARAMETRIC STUDY OF ANGULARLY SMALL SOURCES
An experiment was carried out to determine the mathematical relationship of discomfort glare, and size and displacement of glare source and background luminance. A relationship for the borderline between comfort and discomfort (BCD) was found; it is a function of three parameters: the background luminance, the source angle from the line-of-sight, and the source size. It was also found that the individual differences among observers were very large and of equal importance in predictiveness to the physical parameters. The overall predictability of BCD from physical and subjective parameters was substantial, and the stability of the parameters under cross-validation was considerable, indicating adequate experimental control and statistical analysis. /Author/
