NUMERICAL SOLUTION FOR THE NEAR WAKE OF A BODY WITH PROPELLER

A numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations applied to the tail and near wake region of a slender, axisymmetric body with a stern-mounted propeller is presented. The propeller is modeled as an actuator zone which may be arbitarily arranged in space with an arbitrary radial distribution of thrust. The turbulence exchange processes are described by an integrated, turbulent-kinetic-energy equation. The unsteady equations are cast in terms of the vorticity and a stream function. The vorticity equation is solved by an ADI method, and the stream function equation is solved by direct matrix reduction.
