The data collected so far on the time and bunker savings of deep sea electronic navigation systems show excellent cost-benefit returns. But which system to choose? That the cheapest is not necessarily the best is almost axiomatic for any equipment, marine or otherwise, though it can be an irresistible attraction. The authors examine the relative merits of the available systems Omega Navigation, Loran C, Satellite Navigation) including their cost, accuracy, coverage and ase of use, up with the conclusion that "vessel operators consider Satnav their first and best choice radio navigation aid."
