STRENGTH OF ONE DIMENSIONALLY CONSOLIDATED CLAYS
The author in replying questions raised by the discussers first describes what happens when an inclined specimen of a cross anisotropic material is subjected to an axial stress. The validity of Newton's laws of equilibrium, action and reaction, is illustrated as well as the laws of composition of forces and deformation. References cited by the discussers relating to the question of anisotropic mechanical behavior and its relation to the fabric are discussed. Comments on the testing method adopted in the study, the results of compression tests on circular specimens, and the applicability of the Mohr-Coulom Criterion are examined.
