BEHAVIOR OF MOORED MARINE STRUCTURES IN WAVES

The shapes of moored marine structures include a variety of constructional shapes, such as those of usual ships, rectangular vessels, circular docks, etc. and also combinations of these shapes, such as those of the catamaran ships, semi-submersible type vessels, etc. The mooring system generally employed for these marine structures is also diverse depending upon the kind of mooring lines used, e.g., normal chains, wire ropes, combinations of chains and wire ropes, lines fitted with buoys and/or sinders, etc. Presented in this paper is a method for conducting numerical calculated of nonlinear dynamic behavior of moored structures' motion and mooring lines' tension in wind and waves, which is applicable to the above-mentioned various shapes and mooring lines under the influence of external forces by waves, winds, tidal currents and other steady forces. A simple calcualtion formula to decide dynamic effects caused by the oscillation of lines on the tension of mooring lines is also presented based on the wave equation of string.
