PEDESTRIAN VOLUME ESTIMATION BY LAND-USE VARIABLES
Although several studies have attempted to develop mathematical models for projection of pedestrian trips, no simple and direct model exists that could utilize land-use data for projection of pedestrian volume without considerable data collection efforts and expense. The primary objective of this study was to develop simple quantitative models by using land-use data to estimate pedestrian volume for the CBD sidewalks. The statistical multiple regression technique was used to develop two models for the CBD circulation. The first model was derived from noon-hour pedestrian volume and the second model was formulated from average hourly pedestrian volume by using eight land-use variables. The statistical evaluation of the models were made and the equations developed should provide accurate predictions of pedestrian volume. The models have utility in planning, traffic engineering, and design of pedestrian facilities.
