HILLMAN FLY ASH DEMONSTRATION PROJECT: A CASE STUDY OF MASS UTILIZATION

The paper reports on a study to demonstrate how large quantities of fly ash can be used successfully to improve soil conditions, promote long-term growth of vegetative cover on strip-mine reclamation areas, and to reduce the production of acid mine drainage. Reported are the background data developed in the implementation of a construction contract which specified the utilization of fly ash on a large scale, and the subsequent costs and problems encountered during the initial phases of the contract.
