BUCKLING OF LOCALLY IMPERFECT STIFFENERS IN PLATES
An analysis is presented of the elastic buckling of infinitely wide stiffened plates. The analysis is based on a simplified model of the panel and seeds to determine the interactive behavior of the overall mode of buckling and the local buckling of the stiffener outstands. A high degree of imperfection sensitivity is predicted, particularly for geometries in which the local and overall critical loads are close. The predictions of the analysis are in good agreement with experimental test results showing that the approximations inherent in the analytical model do not lead to significant errors. /ASCE/
