SOME ASPECTS OF INTERSECTION DESIGN
Some basic principles underlying the design of at-grade intersections are discussed. A method of selecting the most suitable treatment at the intersection of two rural two lane roads is developed. A brief discussion is given on the use of Australian road research board bulletin no. 4 for calculating the capacity of urban intersections and some general design rules are given for the setting out of intersections to cater for both left turning and right turning vehicles. The paper concludes with a guide as to the data which should be assembled by a designer to support A submission for approval of an intersection layout. /TRRL/
