SENSITIVITY OF THE COST OF A 183M SPAN STEEL BOX GIRDER BRIDGE TO VARIATION IN DESIGN RULES
This paper describes a program to design a steel box-girder bridge, continuous over an infinite number of equal spans. The program is used to investigate the effects on cost, of changes in the criteria used for the design of the stiffened panels forming the flanges and webs. It is shown that significant changes in the severity of the design rules cause only moderate changes in total cost. A brief discussion is included of the relationship between the designs produced by this program, and those required by the merrison rules. /TRRL/
