ROLLING RESISTANCE AND STRESS DISTRIBUTION ASSOCIATED WITH PLASTIC HYSTERESIS
The stress distribution in a road pavement and its resistance to the rolling of a torque-driven drum compactor and to a torque-driven pneumatic tyre is calculated. Information obtained from repeated-load triaxial tests of the road material is used. To do this the pavement material is simulated by a two-dimensional cross-braced structure consisting of elasto-plastic elements. Solution is effected by satisfying conditions of equilibrium and continuity and by following the stress-strain history of the soil. /Author/TRRL/
