THE EFFECT OF SURFACE GEOMETRY ON THE LUBRICATED SKIDDING FRICTION AND POLISHING OF ROADSTONES
A means of studying the fine three-dimensional surface geometry of roadstones and its use in determining a suitable characterization of the lubricated skid resistance properties of roadstones on rubber is described. The friction predicted by a theoretically determined characterization is compared with friction tests on ten roadstones. The nature of polishing and of thin film lubrication is also discussed.(a) /TRRL/
