STRESS DISTRIBUTION ASSOCIATED WITH ROLLING RESISTANCE
The stress distribution in a road pavement and its resistance to a rolling drum compactor and to a rolling pneumatic tyre is calculated from triaxial test results. To do this the behaviour of the soil under the moving wheel loads is simulated by a two-dimensional cross-braced frame structure consisting of elasto-frictional elements. It is shown how the rolling resistance resulting from the presence of stress-strain hysteresis in the road can be manifested. /Author/TRRL/
