RECENT INNOVATIVE SUB-DIVISIONAL TRENDS AND FUTURE TRENDS TOWARDS A BETTER RESIDENTIAL STREET
Most of the issues that go to make up the design of new city areas - residential, commercial and industrial estates - are now simple engineering or planning matters. It has been said that modern town planning in Australia is done by legal officers, through conditions set by appeals tribunals closely coupled with the constraints and pressures of board rooms. Planning principles come a very poor second. Estate layouts are set by the shape of the parcel of land that happens to be available, by pressure for development that may or may not be correct, and which depend on the coincidence of very many intangible factors.
