THE OPERATION OF URBAN BUS ROUTES. 1. BACKGROUND AND PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS
This is the first in a series of three articles which present the findings of an investigation into the operation of urban bus routes. The operation is studied in terms of the times taken by passengers and buses in different stages of their journeys. This article introduces the subject area and the framework for assessing route performance, and describes an analysis of factors affecting average bus speeds. The two subsequent articles deal with sources of irregularity and other, wider, aspects.(a) /TRRL/
