DESIGN OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS: CURRENT THEORY AND PRACTICE
This paper outlines current concepts in pavement design and rehabilitation, and discusses practical design procedures. Main emphasis is placed on flexible and semi-rigid, i.e. Asphaltic concrete - constructions. It is intended to serve as a background to the use of current standard design methods, e.g. Nrb s/4. Separate paragraphs deal briefly with: (1) pavement performance; (2) modes of distress; (3) types of pavement; (4) design approaches; (5) structural mode of action; (6) calculation of loading; (7) pavement design (flexible and semi-rigid); (8) use of other pavement materials, in particular cement, lime and bitumen stabilised materials; (9) deflection design for flexible pavements; and (10) design strategies. /TRRL/
