A TERRAIN STABILITY INDEX FOR LANDSLIP TENDENCIES IN SLOPES AND EMBANKMENTS
L'INDICE DI QUALITA DEL TERRENO NELLA FRANOSITA DI PENDII E SCARPATE
A terrain stability index is proposed for defining, in relation to the terrain characteristics, the tendency to landslip failure of slopes and embankments. The index is represented by a number, increasing from 0 to 100 according to the strength of the rock. This number is the sum of three partial parameters: the first is in tens and is ascribed according to the litho-anisotropy and cohesion of the rock series; the second is a unit number ascribed to the lay of the anisotropy in relation to the slope, in twelve positions; the third parameter is a subtractive number (from 2 to 10) which represents the magnitude of friction on the anisotropic planes. The parameters and the derivation of the index are graphically represented. /TRRL/
