SOME ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF ALTERNATIVE FOREST ROAD DESIGNS

Erosion and esthetic degradation constitute the major environmental impacts of forest road construction. These impacts, and economic impacts, are controlled by road design criteria -- often there is conflict between objectives to minimize both impacts. Research under way and planned will provide data for analysis of trade-offs.
