TEMPERATURE STRESSES IN REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES

TEMPERATURORSAKADE FORFOERAENDRINGAR I BETONGKONSTRUKTIONER

This paper presents a method for assessing the stresses caused by temperature differences between the opposite faces of shell and plate structures. The temperature distribution over the cross section of the structure is assumed to be linear, and the concrete is assumed not to resist any tensile stresses. The effect of the temperature gradient as well as the effect produced by the uniform rise of the temperature are taken into account. The formulae for computing the linear relationship between stresses and strains are given for various assumed positions of the neutral axis of the cross section. The use of this method is illustrated by an example. /TRRL/
