THE GLATT SHOPPING CENTRE AT WALLISELLEN - PARKING AND INTERNAL TRAFFIC

LE CENTRE D'ACHATS GLATT A WALLISELLEN--PARKINGS ET CIRCULATION INTERNE

The article describes the general design of multi-storey car parks, one 6, the other 7 storey high, located on each side of the commercial centre. The system of superimposed spiral ramps prevents the principal inter-floor traffic from crossing the parking areas. The entry and exit systems, as well as that for filling the parking places are explained. The accesses and the ramps, sometimes comprising two lanes were designed on the basis of detailed traffic forecasts. The capacity of the two car parks is 3425 places, to which may be added the 475 staff parking places at ground level, making a total of 3,900 places. For a parking system so large and so complex, with two entrances and three exits, control and guidance of vehicles were necessary. Special measures were taken to ensure that the users could find their vehicles before departing. Experiments carried out since the opening of the car parks have been very satisfactory; no adjustment or modification has been found necessary. /TRRL/
