LNG TANKER DEVELOPMENTS: WIDE CHOICE OF CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS AVAILABLE
Many different containment systems now available for use in the ocean transportation aspect of the LNG business are highlighted. Among the newer systems being offered is the McDonnel-Douglas 3-D containment system which consists of two layers of polyurethane panels bonded to the inner hull steel with adhesive. The Owen-Corning Perm-Bar II containment system is of the membrane type. It consists of composite panels of polyurethane foam with honeycomb reinforcement encapsulated in a shell of fiber-reinforced plastic.
