DEWATERING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A LARGE DOCK COMPLEX
A cofferdam embankment was constructed by hydraulic filling with dredged sands. Its protection was assured only by a rockfill prism located at the toe of the outer slope. The studies and tests performed to design the dewatering system are discussed. The dewatering works and their performance are also described. In the first part presentation is made of the studies related with the prediction of the flow to be pumped to keep the phreatic surface lowered until the required elevations. In the second part the description and justification of the adopted design are presented.
