AUTOMATED CONTAINER-HANDLING SYSTEM COULD SOLVE HHLA'S SHORTAGE OF SPACE
The handling operation from deposition under the container bridge to and from a temporary storage area can be automated using continuous conveyors. The storage itself can be automated by use of high-bay warehouses under computer control. Results of comparative studies with "Demag Systemtechnik", a fully automated transfer and storage system used in Hamburg Port, are discussed.
