QUALITY-ASSURANCE SYSTEM FOR CEMENT-AGGREGATE CONCRETE
The concrete construction industry is unique because it involves quality-control systems that must be exercised on the production and performance of individual materials (cement and aggregate) and also of concrete, the ultimate product in which these materials are used. Therefore, specifications written for one material will generally affect the performance and ultimate consumer cost of all three materials because of the degree of quality control required for each material. To demonstrate the effect specifications may have on the ultimate cost to the consumer, examplex from a concrete supplier's quality-control and quality-assurance program are presented. The equipment and manpower required for carrying out these programs and the ultimate effect of these requirements on the economics of product processing are described. /Author/
