TRAFFIC SPEED REPORT NO. 99
This report is another in the continuing study of speeds of vehicles on Indiana Highways. Observations of spot speeds were taken on intestate, four-lane and two-lane highways througout the state during the months of November and December 1976.. Analysis of the speeds showed the overall average speed for all vehicles was 57.3 mph. The overall average speed for passenger cars and all trucks was 58.0 mph and 56.1 mph, respectively. These overall average speeds were similar for passenger cars and 0.9 mph slower for trucks than the speeds found 1n the July-September 1976 Study (Speed Report No. 98). This decrease in truck speeds resulted from a 2.0 mph decrease in the average speeds of heavy trucks on the interstate system.
