GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF ELECTRICITY IN SHIPS
Factors affecting the design of an electrical supply system for marine use to ensure security of supply are discussed. It is shown that for a basic generating system consisting of two or more generators in the engineroom and one other situated above the upper deck and outside the machinery spaces, the most important considerations are those of load analysis, selection of generator size and type, supply voltage, overcurrent and short circuit protection and reverse power tripping. Three "in service" designs for ships currently in service or being built for the Shell Group are described and illustrated. Order from: BSRA as No. 46,736.
