CRUDE OIL WASHING: ITS DEVELOPMENT, USE AND RESULTS

This booklet contains three papers previously submitted to IMCO by the Oil Companies International Marine Form and which are collected here, under one cover, for convenience. The principal paper is that describing the development of the technique of crude oil washing. Industry guidelines recommend that this operation be carried out under inert conditions and therefore it is considered appropriate to include the OCIMF paper on casualty data and experience with Inert Gas Systems here as well. For completeness, also included is an early submission by OCIMF in which the effectiveness of some alternatives for the prevention of marine pollution from ships is compared.
