WAVE THEORY APPLIED TO PRACTICAL HULL FORMS

Three types of wave theory applicable to practical hull forms are discussed. The first type satisfies thin ship or second order hull boundary conditions, linearized free surface conditions, and the exact field equations. The second theory, due to "guillotion", comes closer to satisfying the exact free surface boundary conditions at the expense of slight inaccuracies in the field equations. The third method uses a distribution of ordinary "rankine" sources over the hull and its double model reflection, and a further distribution of such sources over the undisturbed surface.
