PROJECTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A DIALOGUE-ORIENTATED INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR ROAD TRAFFIC

PROJEKTIERUNG UND IMPLEMENTIERUNG EINES DIALOGORIENTIERTEN AUSKUNFTSYSTEMS FUER DEN STRASSENVERKEHR

Within the framework of a course entitled "programming practice I" which included the study of macro-information systems, a highway information system was modelled. The program had to enable the shortest route to be calculated and printed-out between two points (junctions) on a localised section of motorway. A description is provided of the planning and production phases, the structure of the accompanying highway traffic data bank, the applied algorithm including the fundamental data-structure. Finally another version of the information system is presented in algol w program language. The analysis of the problem is clearly shown in the form of an illustrated project structure plan for three parts of the exercise: data bank, user (sequence)-system and algorithm. The structure of the sequence system (version 1) is presented as an illustrated structure plan, and the structure of the information system (version 2) is illustrated in pictorial form, which allows it to be set up for central as well as for dialogue use. The fundamental module data structure agrees with version 1. It facilitates a detailed forecast of the travel time system which may be printed out as a complete network tree from which for any given starting point the routes to all other points may be established. /TRRL/
