SYSTEMATIC TESTS WITH SMALL, FAST DISPLACEMENT VESSELS, INCLUDING A STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF SPRAY STRIPS

The paper starts with a survey of systematic investigations within the field of high-speed displacement vessels. In order to investigate the influence of beam to draft ratio ( parent B/T=3.5 ) and length to displacement ratio, nine forms were designed keeping the block coefficient and longitudinal center of buoyancy constant. All hull forms were tested in smooth water. With three of the models, tests in regular waves of different length were carried out. The motions in regular head sea were also calculated theoretically. Motions in irregular wave spectra corresponding to actual wind forces were calculated from the test results in regular waves. The questions concerning appendage resistance, propulsive factors, propeller and resistance scale effects are discussed. ( Author )
