GENERALIZED PORE PRESSURE MODEL FOR STRAIN SOFTENING MATERIALS
In this paper, based on the concept of generalized suction recently proposed by the author for saturated soils, a theory named as generalized pore pressure model is presented, which describes softening process as something like pore pressure generation in saturated soils. According to the theory, the process of strain localization can be analyzed by the conventional finite element procedure. It offers a new way to solve the progressive failure problem in geotechnical engineering. An example is given to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed theory.
