VIBRATION STUDIES OF TSING MA SUSPENSION BRIDGE
This paper focuses on the development of a three-dimensional dynamic finite element model for the Tsing Ma Bridge, the understanding of the main features of modal vibrations, and the comparison with the measured natural frequencies and mode shapes. Of particular interest are the interactions between vibrational modes, between the main and side spans, and between cables, deck, and towers. As done by Abdel-Ghaffar (1978) for the San Pedro-Terminal Island Bridge, Buckland et al. (1979) for the Golden Gate Bridge, and Kumarasena et al. (1989) for the Deer Isle Bridge, the combination of numerical modeling and full-scale measurement provides a comprehensive understanding of behavior and properties of the Tsing Ma Bridge.
