PERFORMANCE OF HIGH-STRENGTH CONCRETE CORBELS. DISCUSSION
A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by S. Foster, R.E. Powell, and H.S. Selim, published in this journal (Volume 93, Number 5, September-October 1996), is presented. The discusser maintains that the authors found that the ACI 318 shear friction design method used to calculate the shear strength yielded generally unconservative results, because they failed to limit the shear strength as specified in Code Section 11.9.3.2.1. The shear strength limit also prevents congestion of reinforcement in corbels.
