The report examines the role of improved highway transportation in the economic development of the TARCOG region. Special emphasis is given to the need for two major development highways, Appalachia Corridor 'I' and an East-West Freeway. Stressed in the paper are points concerning the overall development of this area and the possibilities of economic development for a larger area of the southeast, primarily north Alabama, northeast Mississippi and south Tennessee. The impact of two major development highways is expected to reduce the recessional type phenomena described in Technical Papers 1 and 3 of this series. (Author)
