CHINA'S URBAN TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY: PROCEEDINGS OF A SYMPOSIUM IN BEIJING, NOVEMBER 8-10, 1995. THEME PAPER 12: SHAPING THE FUTURE: THE ROLE OF URBAN TRANSPORT PLANNING

This paper emphasises the importance of transport planning to the future of China's cities and examines how it might proceed. Elements of a successful transport planning system are discussed. The transportation planning process is traced. Details are given of the input information required and factors to be taken into consideration such as budget, Urban Development Plan and strategic objectives are discussed. Components including infrastructure, traffic management, public transport and freight transport planning are considered.
