LOW-POLYMER BORATE FRAC FLUID CLEANS UP THOROUGHLY

Reduction in fracture-fluid gel concentration with a simplified low-guar, borate-crosslinked (LGB) has resulted in a two-to-five-fold production increase in Marathon Oil Company's Permian basin wells stimulated with this fluid system. Thorough post-frac cleanup is believed to be the most important reason for the production increase. In these stimulation treatments, the base fluid is a water-based guar mixed at 15-25 lb/1,000 gallons. The low gel concentration contributes to quick and complete cleanup. Much less polymer is left in the formation, and the low gel concentrations do not hinder fluid rehological properties.
