GUIDELINES FOR DETERMINING THE CLEANING EFFECT ON POROUS ASPHALT

This paper summarises the final report of the Dutch working group set up to determine and validate cleaning specifications for porous asphalt. The study was based on measurements taken with the water drainometer or 'Becker' equipment. Existing data were used to determine specific values for the outflow time of new porous asphalt, clean porous asphalt and clogged porous asphalt by means of statistical analysis. During the project two other methods were developed for measuring the permeability of porous asphalt: a) the air-drainmeter (based on measuring the resulting air pressure required to blow a certain amount of air through a tube into the porous asphalt) and b) the guard tube method (also called the a-insitumeter) based on measuring the absorption coefficient, a, of a porous asphalt. The working group found the correlation between the three methods to be particularly important. For the covering abstract see IRRD 890329.
