FTA TO BART: WE'LL GET RAIL FUNDS
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has cleared the way for site preparation work to begin in July 1997 for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District's controversial $1.2 billion commuter rail line to San Francisco International Airport. BART will award nearly $50 million in contracts involving oversight of four design-build segments by three consultants by July 8. By year's end, Oakland, California-based BART will award two major design-build contracts for about $400 million for the line and $60 million for a station.
