STRUCTURAL EVALUATION OF CRACK AND SEAT OVERLAY PAVEMENTS (WITH DISCUSSION)
This workshop presentation briefly discusses the structural evaluation of pavements consisting of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) overlays on cracked and seated concrete pavements. Cracking and seating reduces reflection cracking in the overlay course. The study was conducted to develop structural layer coefficients for the cracked and seated layers. The structural layer coefficients were calculated from dynamic deflection test results and ranged from 0.21 to 0.50. The crack spacing and degree of cracking appeared to be related to the layer coefficient which increases as the crack spacing increases. The structural layer coefficients also showed a tendency to increase after the HMA overlay was placed.
