READING, WRITING AND SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
This article reviews the importance of school bus safety training programs for school children. Some states mandate school bus safety training and others leave it up to the local school districts. Minnesota is one state that requires that students learn about school bus safety; students in grades kindergarten through 10 must undergo both classroom and practical, on-the-bus training. Children learn district policies, conduct, danger zones surrounding a school bus, procedures for boarding and leaving the bus, procedures for safe street and road crossing, and bus evacuation procedures.
