DAMS, EMBANKMENTS AND SLOPES

The application of recent developments in unsaturated soil mechanics to the analysis of embankment dam behaviour during construction and operation and to the effect of environmental changes on slope stability is reviewed. These developments have given an improved insight into soil behaviour and have provided valuable new design tools. However it is important to recognise the limitations involved in their application in civil engineering works. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 881647.
