TRAVINFO FIELD OPERATIONAL TEST: PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP
This paper presents the results of the first wave of interviews with TravInfo project partners regarding institutional issues. The results of the interviews suggest that TravInfo has been effective in achieving one of its foremost goals: developing a partnership between the public and private sectors. At the same time, there appears to be considerable opportunity to improve the organization's efficiency. The biggest outstanding issue is to define the exact scope of steering committee and working group responsibilities. In an effort to stimulate private sector interest in TravInfo, the steering committee was given a broad charter. As a result, it has pursued a number of activities that go well beyond the advisory role. It appears that these efforts have not only drained the energy of steering committee members, but have distracted them from their core responsibilities.
